Our programs are geared to promote and maintain healthy lifestyles. Working with community partners, the Center provides the following resources, most of which are free:

  • Childbirth Preparation Classes are held once a month from 10:00 am to 4:30 pm at two convenient locations—Temple University Hospital and Northeastern Ambulatory Care Center. These one-day classes are taught by Certified Childbirth Nurse Educators. Topics include breathing and relaxation techniques, stages of labor, medication options, methods of delivery, breast feeding introduction and newborn and infant care. Registration is required. Classes are free.

Childbirth Preparation Classes at the Northeastern Ambulatory Care Center are typically held on the third Saturday of the month, with some exceptions due to holidays. To register, contact Anna Caraballo at 215-926-3517 or Anna.Caraballo@tuhs.temple.edu, or Justine Livewell at 215-926-3484 or Justine.Livewell@tuhs.temple.edu.

  • Project Positive Parenting is a parenting program presented by Jewish Family and Children Services. Classes provide parenting advice, education and support services to help parents improve parenting and management skills. Classes consist of 12 sessions that meet once per week at Northeastern Ambulatory Care Center. Gift card incentives and free onsite childcare are available. Classes are free.

  • Diabetes Education and Self Management Classes are sponsored by the Joslin Diabetes Center, Affiliate at Temple University Hospital. The Center offers comprehensive diabetes education, medical management, education and nutritional counseling, insulin instruction, continuous glucose monitoring, pump therapy and more. Classes are available monthly in both English and Spanish at Northeastern Ambulatory Care Center, Temple University Hospital, TUH-Episcopal Campus and Jeanes Hospital.

To join our program, you will need a referral from your primary care doctor. Before your appointment, we suggest you contact your insurance company to be sure services are covered. Medicare does cover diabetes education for appropriate patients. Payment plans and other financial options are available.

For a schedule of classes or more information, call the Joslin staff at 215-926-3780.

Free parking is available at Northeastern Ambulatory Care Center.

In addition to onsite programs, the community outreach department participates in numerous senior expos, health fairs, offsite educational programs, and offers support and visits to local senior centers and other community-based organizations.
