Temple University Hospital Expands and Renovates Maternity Unit
Sunday, June 21, 2009

To enhance patient comfort and accommodate a rising number of births, Temple University Hospital recently completed a $1.6 million renovation and expansion of its maternity unit. Temple delivers nearly 3,000 babies a year and offers the most advanced medical care in a home-like atmosphere.

Features of Temple's maternity services include:

  • Labor and Delivery Suites - Each of the maternity unit's 12 spacious suites offers a home-like atmosphere that is supported by state-of-the-art equipment. Most of the suites allow mothers to give birth without being moved from one room to another.
  • Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit - This specialized nursery offers a high level of care for babies who are born early or who have special medical needs. It is staffed by board-certified neonatologists and nurses with advanced training in neonatal care.
  • In-Unit Operating Rooms - The Temple maternity unit contains two fully equipped operating rooms. This ensures immediate access should a complication arise during delivery.
  • Board-Certified Physicians - Temple patients can depend on 24-hour coverage by board-certified obstetricians, neonatologists, perinatologists, anesthesiologists and pediatricians.
  • Skilled Nurses - Temple's maternity nurses provide compassionate, professional support during labor, delivery and recovery. Nurses also offer first-time parents valuable advice in caring for their new arrival, including lactation support.
  • Medical Interpretation - Medical interpretation for all languages is available 24/7 on the maternity unit. Translated patient material is also available.
  • Advanced Technology - Temple has all of the resources necessary to ensure a safe delivery and recovery. In addition, Temple provides peace of mind with a state-of-the-art infant security system.

Temple University Hospital is located just three miles from Northeastern Ambulatory Care Center, where expectant mothers can receive a wide range of gynecologic and prenatal services such as regular checkups with their existing doctor, blood work, routine ultrasounds and follow-up care.
